Some places are not perfect — and that is exactly what makes them special.

Casa Biologica is not a newly built holiday home in the uniform modern style. It is a piece of the old Madeira — a place with history, character and an atmosphere that recalls the island as it was before the great building boom.
The house is typically Madeiran and sits at around 320 metres above sea level in Estreito da Calheta, with a wonderful view over the Atlantic and the green landscape of the island. It has stood in this special spot for some 30 years and has been lovingly renovated and cared for again and again over that time.

The apartments have been furnished with great care — modern and comfortable, yet without losing the character of the house. It mattered to me to keep the original charm of Casa Biologica and to combine it with everything that makes a relaxed holiday comfortable.
In the classic manner of the island, the house extends over several levels, just as houses have been built on Madeira for generations. The materials follow the island's traditional way of building too, and give the house its warm and authentic feel.
Modern comfort, a homely atmosphere and the calm of rural Madeira come together here into a place where you can arrive and slow down.
My name is Mirella Janus. Since the autumn of 2025 I have had the pleasure of carrying Casa Biologica on and welcoming guests from all over the world.
I live in the house together with my son and my dog Pia, so it is lovely when our guests like animals. Pia is a friendly and curious dog who greets every visitor warmly. Like many dogs she announces herself with a few barks now and then — that is simply part of everyday life here.
It matters to me that my guests feel at home and can experience Madeira the way I love the island: relaxed, unspoilt and far from the crowds. I am always happy to share tips for walks, day trips or small restaurants that not every guidebook knows.

Casa Biologica is in a rural part of Madeira. Like many houses outside the towns, it is not connected to the public sewer system. We therefore ask our guests to dispose of toilet paper in the bin provided. This is common practice across Madeira and unfortunately cannot be solved any other way technically. We ask for your understanding.
At present the house does not yet have heating. I am already working on a suitable solution and hope to have it in place by next winter.
Casa Biologica is the right place for people who…
want to enjoy the quiet of nature
want to experience the original Madeira
appreciate tastefully furnished accommodation with character
love the view over the Atlantic
enjoy a personal stay in a family atmosphere
If you are looking for a place where you can leave everyday life behind, hear the sounds of nature and get to know the real Madeira, then I would be delighted to welcome you.
A warm welcome to Casa Biologica — perhaps, for a while, it will become your home on Madeira too.
